Database Administrator - The Role

Placed at the heart of the data driven and customer focused FinTech. You need to be detail-orientated and organised, with the critical role of maintaining the stability and security of our high availability SQL Server architecture. As part of a growing yet profitable organisation, you will also have a passion to drive the business forward through continuous improvement to our database systems, in collaboration with your colleagues.

Responsiblities of the Database Administrator

  • Operational performance of database systems, underpinned by design and implementation of Proactive Monitoring and Management processes.
  • Assist in establishing and enforcing best practices, policies, and procedures for SQL development.
  • Support data throughout its lifecycle, including long-term archival data storage, retention/deletion, and the management of access to restricted data.
  • Planning and developing disaster recovery procedures for data services to assure service continuity and availability.
  • Ensure procedures and processes are documented clearly and that these are maintained to reflect current practice.
  • Assist in defining strategic architectural design and ensure data architecture and practices are developed to optimise efficiency, accuracy and support growth.
  • Support and execute IT governance and controls both internally and with partners/suppliers.
  • Support a streamlined development and release process, utilising the Redgate database automation toolset, whilst maintaining rigorous control on the processes.
  • Provide technical recommendations for optimised data access, data flows and data retention for the data warehouse.
  • Maintain expert knowledge in required technology area by continuously research new and emerging technology to maintain knowledge of opportunities to enhance the IT Architectural Strategy.

  • Support for the applications and development teams during deployments.
  • Liaising with the Infrastructure Team to discuss new hardware requirements where needed as well as specific changes required to new systems when they are deployed to make them suitable DB servers.
  • Providing support in the event of database issues

Sills required of the DBA


  • Expert database administration skills in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong SQL, Transact-SQL, and SQL query optimisation skills.
  • Experience managing AlwaysOn high availability clusters.
  • Expert at database tuning and proficiency in logical and conceptual database design.
  • Familiarity with IT service management using best practice such as ITIL, including Change Management, Release and Deployment Management, and Incident Management.
  • Demonstrate an ability to think and reason logically.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good team working and relationship management skills.
  • Well-practised analytically in problem solving


  • Financial services experience.
  • Knowledge of PCI security and compliance.
  • SQL Server replication.
  • Redgate DLM toolset.
  • SQL Compliance manager.
