About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced DevOps Lead to join our Data team. In this role you will provide technical and cultural leadership to our teams and influence both the technology choices within our solutions and ways of working, to ultimately drive a shift in behaviours and efficiency. This role encompasses working directly with developers, engineers, testers and other change roles, as well as directly with the data leadership team to influence and challenge

The role will be based at our Head Office in Guildford, however, all of our people are currently working from home and with increasingly virtual teams we do not anticipate a whole-sale return to office working. Additionally a large number of team members are based off-shore.

Responsibilities/Requirements

• In collaboration with the leadership team and SMEs, set out a pragmatic DevOps road-map, for people, process and technology, which you will use to drive action and manage expectations
• Deliver systems, processes, and architecture to support our journey to DevOps across Data
• Work across multiple teams to enable and drive a shift from separate development and support teams, towards a continuous DevOps cycle
• Design and implement KPIs to measure success/efficiency and benefits of change, to ways of working and productivity
• Input and set-out DevOps processes to support architecture and design of large-scale platforms, including changes to delivery patterns and design and build of data solutions

• Set out and deliver new approaches to test and release management, with a view to full automation where appropriate
• Working with other experts, provide thought-leadership on:
• operational support processes, including triage, assignment and resolution
• Infrastructure support for shared services including capacity planning and performance
• Proactively seek out opportunities for measurement, automations and deployment improvements, as well as increased performance and stability.

Key challenges and opportunities

• Moving from project focussed delivery (build and walk away) to lifetime support
• Able to break down barriers between teams and create a value based, customer centric culture
• Defining relationship between infrastructure support and delivery teams with clearly defined hand-off processes to ensure seamless delivery and user experience
• Transition from off-shore production support team to DevOps approach with dev teams owning substantial elements of delivery and operation

Skills

• Expertise in leveraging automation/DevOps principles and best practices, including real-world experience implementing DevOps tools
• Able to influence at all levels, persuade leaders to take appropriate actions whilst ensuring the teams are bought into the solutions
• Able to identify and propose the correct technical applications to enable DevOps ways of working, appropriate to the prevailing maturity
• Influencing and stakeholder management: able to break-down barriers between teams and create a value-based culture
• Team player, capable of collaborating in a fast-paced environment, as well as capable of working independently with a high level of self-motivation
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills with a systematic and goal oriented workstyle
• Self-motivated to keep up-to-date with technological developments and trends
• Ability to deliver high-quality results under time-constraints and concurrent tasks
• Strong experience of working within Agile frameworks
